Facebook Tip for Consultants

Facebook Profile Info BoxOver the last few weeks I have been putting together an e-book on social media for consultants and small businesses that I hope to publish soon.

I noticed an often overlooked feature of Facebook profiles that many people fail to take an advantage of.  It’s an editable field where you can post a message or brief write-up about you.  This field is found below your picture in the upper left of your profile and can be edited by clicking on the small pencil icon in the field.

Connecting on Facebook with other people is not as formal as LinkedIn.  I have connections with folks that I have never met in person, but I do have common interests with them.  When people make connections to those they don’t necessarily know, they see a limited profile with limited information about that person before they make a friend request.  Often times, there is not enough information on these limited profiles to know whether or not the other person is the right person to connect and network with.

If you want to make more online connections and network with people on Facebook, add some information about you in this space.  Write what you do and perhaps add a link to your website or blog in this space.  Give people a compelling reason to connect with you, but above all show them you are someone they can like, know and trust.
